Season 4 had a lot of great guests, with Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) going to Hollywood to see their podcast adapted into film. But it was also a bit listless at times. Lots of guests mean lots of characters, and we were often in the blur with the investigation.
The end of Season 4 left us with the arrival of a new character: the wife of a gangster, searching for her husband… and Lester – beloved doorman of the Arconia, found dead in the fountain by our trio.
The much awaited Season 5 starts directly with Lester’s funerals, and how he lived is life as told by Oliver. But surprise, the footage from the Arconia confirms Lester’s death is accidental! Beware of shrimps though, they may not always be what they seem to be… Just like everything in Only Murders in the Building. Count on our amateur detectives to seek out the truth, no matter what.
Episode 2 After You focuses around Lester’s days at the Arconia, from his first encounters with Mabel (so cute), Oliver and Charles to his side business and the more recent days.
Season 5 seems to return to its roots: at the Arconia. Will the plot of this season be centered more around the Arconia and its residents? It feels like it. It’s a smart move made by the screenwriters and showrunners of the show, to go back to what made the show so popular to begin with.
The shows always like to play with society and what is expected. Like a reflection of our world. Gangsters are IN this season. So here, they play with the stereotypes of gangsters movies. Play on the use of technology, and AI. And of course, on power and who has it.
