Only Murders in the building – Season 5 Episode 6 “Flatbush”

This review contains spoilers. The article about Season 5 Episodes 1 to 3 [here] contains minor spoilers.

The end of Episode 5 “Tongue Tied” left us with a harrowing question: are the wives responsible for their husbands death? The beginning of “Flatbush” doesn’t leave us any time to think about it though: Loretta is back – as always, beautifully portrayed by Meryl Streep.

Losing your home (and everything in it) after 47 years is devastating, but our trio takes her mind of off things with their investigation. For a short while anyway. Oliver and Loretta go out to Lorraine’s house and discover it’s for sale.

Ah! The severed finger Charles was keeping for Detective Williams ends up missing. Who is surprised? I mean, it’s obvious but it works. It sends Det. Williams, Charles and Mabel to find LESTR, in order to get the video from the building. They conveniently bump into The. She’s just the right amount of annoying and helpful.

Loretta, playing a role from a previous character, is definitely adding to the humour of this episode. But she also gives so much depth to Oliver’s character. The scene between Lorraine and Loretta is absolutely amazing. Oliver, on the other end, is reminiscing sad moments from his childhood.

Loretta is exactly what Oliver needed. They are amazingly sweet together. It really gives another dimension to the show. This moment is short lived though, as the show goes back on track after that. The confrontation with the wives gives a bit more clarity on what is going on.

I believe Loretta’s house fire is linked to the investigation of our amateur trio somehow. Could Oliver’s offer on his appartment aslo be linked? They are still smany unresolved questions!

I am so glad The and Mabel patched things up. I knew they would be, at some point, but since we don’t see The much, I was afraid their relation wouldn’t change.

The last revelation brings Bash back in the spotlight.
